Majority of adults have some kind of dental fear or anxiety. Imagine what children experience! At Pink Door Pediatric Dentistry, we do everything we can to provide a child-friendly environment. Nitrous oxide, or often referred to as “laughing gas” or “happy gas”, is a safe and gentle way to put a mildly nervous child at ease. This gives a little bit of extra help to calm a child’s nervous mind. Your child will be awake, still able to talk and move on her/his own.
Young children or toddlers are often very frightened of the dentist. The sounds they hear from the dental drill and the feeling of pressure that they feel, can make them go hysteric, even if they do not actually feel pain. Moreover, some children need to have a lot of dental work completed on multiple teeth. Thus, at Pink Door Pediatric Dentistry, we offer an option to put the child completely to sleep in order to finish all of the treatment in one, stress-free visit.
In some cases, general anesthesia may be necessary when treating young child with extensive dental caries, specials needs, and severe dental anxiety. An anesthesiologist will give medications that will make a child sleep and feel no pain during dental procedure, and have no memory of it.
Silver diamine fluoride is antimicrobial liquid that is able to treat cavities in a non-invasive, fast, affordable and painless manner. SDF, paired with close monitoring and good home care, can prevent or delay the need for more extensive and expensive procedures. The fluoride solution strengthens and protects the enamel by making the tooth harder and limiting the growth of bacteria that causes tooth decay. When SDF is applied to a tooth, it oxidizes and leaves a permanent black stain on the damaged portion of the tooth. For baby teeth, however, the stains are temporary because the teeth will eventually fall out on their own. The esthetic issue of staining is far outweighed by the benefits. This form of treatment is growing in popular.
There are many reasons young child may have difficulty brushing their teeth or by more susceptible to dental cavities.
